# The Leaf — Super Simple
A **leaf** is the flat green part of a plant. It is the plant’s **food factory**.
### Why green?
Because of a pigment called **chlorophyll**. Chlorophyll catches sunlight.
### What does a leaf do?
1. **Photosynthesis** — makes food using sunlight, air (CO₂) and water
2. **Transpiration** — lets out extra water as vapour
3. **Gas exchange** — takes in and gives out gases through tiny pores called **stomata**
### Three main parts
