What travels when you tap a link?
By the end of this lesson
Tell the five-step trip of a web page (type URL → DNS → network → server → browser) and separate internet from WWW.
Remember
- The internet is a network of networks using agreed rules (protocols).
- You type a URL → DNS finds the numeric address → request travels → server replies → browser draws the page.
- Browser = Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari. URL = the address.
- Download = file comes to you. Upload = you send a file out.
- WWW is pages and links. The internet is the roads (email and games use the roads too).
Worked examples
Cover the answer. Try the steps on paper, then open them.
Example 1 — Trip of wonderlearn.co.in
List the five beats.
- Type / tap the name
- DNS looks up the number (like a phone book)
- Packets travel on Wi-Fi / cables
- WonderLearn’s server sends the page
- Your browser paints it
Answer: URL → DNS → network → server → browser
Check: If DNS fails you see “server not found”.
Example 2 — Client / server again
Who asks? Who answers?
- Your device asks (client)
- The remote computer answers (server)
- Many clients can share one server
Answer: client asks, server answers
Check: Same pair as the Types lesson, now on the network.
Example 3 — WWW vs internet
Sending a school email — web or internet or both?
- Email uses the internet (the roads)
- It may or may not use a web page (Gmail in a browser uses both)
- A desktop mail app can send mail without browsing the WWW
Answer: internet for sure; WWW only if you use a webmail page
Check: Internet ⊃ web.
