# Common Mistakes 1. Thinking **large-scale maps show large areas** — they show **small** areas with **more** detail. 2. Mixing **tributary** (joins) with **distributary** (splits). 3. Saying sketches are accurate for distance — they are **not to scale**. 4. Forgetting map needs a **key** to be readable. 5. Anticline = down — no, anticline arches **up**. 6. Confusing **plan** (building/rooms) with **map** (landscape/region). 7. Ignoring units: always write **cm on map** and **km on ground**.
